CuppyPet is a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet video game that can be played through Guardian using /cuppy-pet
, developed by Saku. Launching as part of 95 LIVE 2025, server members can create their very own CuppyPet that they can take care of and customise.
The main character, Cuppy, is an existing server mascot that was created by Mae. The pixel version of Cuppy was based on the original design, but lacks arms in-game due to resolution limitations.
History

Ideas about a server pet simulator date back as far as June 2023 prior to Saku taking over development of Guardian, with members discussing in #cafe about a game where the entire server would take care of one single pet. This would've been developed as part of Saku's "Winter Project" bot, that was being used to implement ideas into the server whilst Guardian v2's developer, VoidInVoid, was busy. Ironically, Saku ultimately was also too busy and not much came of this original idea.
That idea lingered around at the back of Saku's mind and official development eventually began in November 2024, with initial development focused on designing what the game would look like and what you'd be able to do. After some thinking, Saku became set on the game being designed with a crude pixel art style, using the resolution of the original Nintendo DS (256x192) as a canvas. This would allow for easy development as Saku is not an artist or designer, and a smaller resolution would be better for rendering speed. The beloved unofficial-turned-official mascot character of the server, Cuppy, was chosen as the main character as Saku thought it would be a nice way to properly integrate the character into the server and his design was already simple enough to redesign as a pixel-art version.
Bits and pieces of the game were developed over months between other work and a functioning version of the game was officially ready to showcase to Baristas in March, with the original intention to complete more features in time for a launch on April Fools Day (1st April 2025).
Due to a lack of time available to continue development, Saku wasn't satisfied with how the game was and the original April Fools launch was cancelled. A new date of the 12th June 2025 was set after it was discussed that it could be properly spotlighted within the server's yearly 95 LIVE anniversary event. This allowed for few more months of development to properly flesh out the game with more features.
Once again, however, Saku became very busy and overall Guardian development slowed down. CuppyPet didn't develop much further, but minor adjustments were made to optimise and throughly bug test what was already there. The game did eventually launch in largely the same state it was about to launch in originally, with a specially made trailer and feature showcase airing part way through 95 LIVE, to a lot of hype from members watching.
Shortly after launch, original Cuppy designer Mae joined on to design cosmetic items for Cuppy and Cuppy's room.
